What is an Honor Guard?
An honor guard is a ceremonial unit comprised of highly motivated cadets who demonstrate high standards of conduct, appearance and aptitude for ceremonial duty. The primary role of a CAP honor guard is to provide funeral honors, serve as guardians of the colors by displaying and escorting the national flag, and perform rifle demonstrations as a way to serve and inform the community.
When is the Honor Guard typically requested?
The Honor Guard is often called to provide a guard for the colors at local military, government, or sporting events. The Honor Guard is also frequently requested to provide drill and rifle demonstrations at patriotic celebrations such as air shows and parades. Although not called upon as often, the bearers element stands ready to provide escort and bearing duties as requested for funerals, whether civilian, military (any branch) or fellow CAP members.
Is there a cost to request an Honor Guard?
The Honor Guard is a service to our fellow citizens. As such, there is not a cost associated with an Honor Guard service.
How is the Honor Guard funded?
The Honor Guard depends on the generosity of people like you. Whether you can donate $5 or $500, your contribution is important to the lasting service of the Group VI Honor Guard. If you would like to make a donation, please send an email to honorguard@group6cap.org.
